What happened in BRICS officials’ meeting with Iran’s FM?

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi attended the 17th BRICS Summit in Brazil and held high-level talks with officials from Russia, India, Turkey, Brazil, Egypt, and China. Discussions centered around regional instability following Israeli and U.S. aggression against Iran.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi traveled to Brazil to take part in the 17th BRICS Summit.

The summit, held in Rio de Janeiro under the theme “Peace, Security, and Reform of Global Governance,” began on Friday and concluded on Saturday. Upon arrival, Araghchi was officially welcomed by Brazilian President Lula da Silva, according to Pars Today.

Russia
On the sidelines of the summit, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with Araghchi. During the meeting, Araghchi condemned the joint military aggression by the Zionist regime and the United States, asserting Iran’s resolve to defend its sovereignty and pursue accountability.

He also criticized the actions of Israel and the U.S. as serious violations of the UN Charter, the norms of diplomacy, and the international non-proliferation regime, calling for UN Security Council action and global responsibility in safeguarding peace.

Lavrov reaffirmed Russia’s condemnation of the unlawful strikes against Iran, including attacks on peaceful nuclear sites. He stressed the importance of preventing further escalation and offered Russia’s readiness to assist diplomatically, including at the UN level.

India
India’s Minister of External Affairs, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, also met with Araghchi. They discussed bilateral relations and regional developments following the military assaults by Israel and the United States.

Brazil
Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira also held talks with Araghchi. The Iranian minister expressed gratitude for Brazil's BRICS Summit hosting and praised BRICS' role in promoting multilateralism and a rule-based global order. He emphasized the importance of strengthening Iran–Brazil cooperation across various platforms.

Vieira strongly condemned the recent military attacks against Iran’s territory and nuclear facilities and underscored the UN Security Council’s duty to maintain international peace.

Turkey
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with Araghchi as well. Discussions focused on Iran–Turkey ties and the regional situation post-aggression by the Zionist regime and the U.S.

Both sides called for an immediate end to the genocide in occupied Palestinian territories and demanded accountability for Israeli war crimes.

Egypt and China
The Prime Ministers of Egypt and China also met with Araghchi separately to discuss bilateral and regional matters on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit.
